Total arthroplasty was performed on 21 congenitally dislocated hips in 18 women. In all cases the femoral head was dislocated cranially at least one-fifth of the height of the pelvis. The components were both cemented, the acetabulum being replaced to its original position.

Epidural malignant tumour often causes weakness of the legs as well as pain. A series of 37 consecutive cases treated with surgery for these symptoms is presented. Considerable pain reduction was achieved in half of the cases, and 6 months after surgery one fourth could walk.

Twenty cases of congenital dislocation of the hip were treated with total hip replacement. The hips were completely dislocated with the femoral head supported by a nearthrosis proximal to the original acetabulum. The concept was to reconstruct the hip with an acetabular cup at the site of the original acetabulum even if a portion of the proximal end of the femur had to be sacrificed in the process.

Through 17 years ten patients were treated for psychologically unacceptable tallness by bilateral femoral shortening. All were young adults between 17 and 28 years; one was acromegalic, one had Marfans syndrome and the other were tall for unknown reasons. The amount of shortening obtained was between 6 and 16 cm.

The authors review 18 patients with multiple myeloma who had bone destruction of a kind that indicated surgical therapy. Eight patients had paralegic myelopathy and one had compression of the cauda equina. Four of them displayed partial to complete regression.
