A new method for evaluation of the autonomic nervous system in patients with idiopathic hyperhidrosis: systolic blood pressure and heart rate recovery after graded exercise.

Background: Idiopathic hyperhidrosis (IH) is characterized by excessive and uncontrolled production of sweat, mainly localized to the soles, palms, axillae and craniofacial area. Although IH is a disease concerning the autonomic nervous system, it is not clear yet whether this dysfunction is local or systemic.

Objective: To evaluate the autonomic control of cardiovascular system by measuring values of heart rate recovery (HRR) and systolic blood pressure recovery (SBPR) obtained at various time intervals after maximal graded exercise treadmill testing in patients with IH compared with controls.

Association of Adipokines, Insulin Resistance, Hypertension and Dyslipidemia in Patients with Psoriasis Vulgaris.

Background: Systemic inflammation in psoriasis causes insulin resistance and cardiovascular diseases. Adipokines are adipose-tissue-derived factors that are involved in metabolic processes. It is thought that these adipokines are associated with the development of psoriasis.

Influence of narrowband UVB irradiation of serum on autologous serum skin test results.

Background: Autologous serum skin test (ASST) is an in vivo test to demonstrate circulating endogenous proinflammatory or wheal-inducing factors in urticaria patients. While ASST was negative in a patient with solar urticaria and in a patient with localized heat urticaria, test results turned to positive when performed with visible light-irradiated and heated serums, respectively. These data suggest that some factors and/or antibodies in serum may be activated or inhibited with different factors.

Insulin-like growth factor-I gene polymorphism in acne vulgaris.

Background: Acne vulgaris is a multifactorial disease of the skin. Several studies have shown that elevated levels of serum insulin-like growth factor-I (IGF-I) correlate with overproduction of sebum and acne. Recently functional relationship between IGF-I (CA) polymorphism and circulating IGF-I levels in adults has been reported.

Scientific productivity of OECD countries in dermatology journals within the last 10-year period.

Background:   Scientific productivity is closely related to gross income, population, and cultures of the countries. Every country, more or less, has a responsibility of contributing to science.

Materials And Methods: The publications, citations received, and the h-index under the category of "dermatology" in 43 journals between the years of 1999-2003 and 2004-2008 according to the ISI JCR data of 2008 were examined individually for each OECD country.
