Background: Without treatment, nearly 50 % of tuberculosis (TB) patients die. World Health Organization's definition of TB deaths does not take into consideration whether the cause of death was TB or other non-TB co-morbid conditions. Extrapulmonary tuberculosis (EPTB) in People Living with HIV (PLWHIV) is a diagnostic challenge. Our immunochemistry based MPT64 antigen detection test has shown improved sensitivity compared to current laboratory tests in the resource limited diagnostic setting.
