Parkinson's disease (PD) is considered to be the second most prominent neurodegenerative disease and has a global prevalence. Glucocerebrosidase () gene mutations represent a significant hereditary risk factor for the development of PD and have a profound impact on the motor and cognitive progression of the disease. The aim of this review is to summarize the literature data on the prevalence, type, and peculiarities of mutations in populations of different ethnic backgrounds.

Mutations in sequestosome 1 (SQSTM1) gene have been associated with frontotemporal dementia (FTD), amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), frontotemporal dementia - ALS (FTD-ALS), and very recently, progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP), paget disease of bone (PDB), distal myopathy with rimmed vacuoles (DMRV), and neurodegenerative disorders in childhood. We present a case of right temporal variant of FTD (rtvFTD) with heterozygous mutation (c.823_824del(p.

Objective: Late-onset cerebellar ataxia (LOCA) is a slowly progressive cerebellar disorder with symptom onset ≥30years of age. Intronic tandem repeat expansions (TREs) in RFC1 and FGF14 have recently emerged as common causes of LOCA. The relative contribution of classic vs.

α-Synuclein (AS) is a small presynaptic protein that is genetically, biochemically, and neuropathologically linked to Parkinson's disease (PD) and related synucleinopathies. We present here a review of the topic of this relationship, focusing on more recent knowledge. In particular, we review the genetic evidence linking AS to familial and sporadic PD, including a number of recently identified point mutations in the gene.

Introduction: Corticobasal syndrome (CBS) is a rare form of atypical parkinsonism, most commonly caused by neurodegenerative disorders. Autoimmune underlying conditions are extremely rare, and anti-Yo antibody-associated CBS has not been reported yet.

Case Report: Herein, we describe a case of a 68-year-old woman presenting with progressive dysarthria, gait instability and difficulty using her left hand with subacute deterioration during the last 3 months.
