Photothermal conversion efficiency (η) plays a crucial role in selecting suitable gold nanoparticles for photothermal therapeutic applications. The photothermal efficiency depends on the material used for the nanoparticles as well as their various parameters, such as size and shape. By maximizing the light-to-heat conversion efficiency (η), one can reduce the concentration of nanoparticle drugs for photothermal cancer treatment and apply lower laser power to irradiate the tumor.

The tunability of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) makes them exceptional materials for the development of highly selective, low-power sensors for toxic gas detection. Herein, we demonstrate enhanced detection of NO gas by a MOF-based electrical impedance sensor made using a unique mixed metal MOF-on-MOF synthesis. A combined experimental and computational study was performed using the exemplar NiMg-MOF-74 to understand the fundamental structure-property relationships behind metal mixing and MOF film synthesis methods on sensor performance.

De novo lipogenesis (DNL) has been implicated in the development and progression of liver steatosis. Hepatic DNL is strongly influenced by dietary macronutrient composition with diets high in carbohydrate increasing DNL while diets high in fat decrease DNL. The enzymes in the core DNL pathway have been well characterized; however, less is known about other liver proteins that play accessory or regulatory roles.

Article Synopsis
  • Racial and socioeconomic disparities impact the utilization of spine surgery for degenerative lumbar spondylolisthesis in the U.S., potentially leading to poorer health outcomes for BIPOC patients.
  • A study involving 9,941 patients revealed that BIPOC individuals were significantly less likely to undergo surgery compared to White patients and had lower odds of achieving important improvements in physical function and pain management.
  • The findings highlight the need for addressing these disparities to improve health-related quality of life for affected populations.
