Cascading hazards of a major Bengal basin earthquake and abrupt avulsion of the Ganges River.

Earthquakes present severe hazards for people and economies and can be primary drivers of landscape change yet their impact to river-channel networks remains poorly known. Here we show evidence for an abrupt earthquake-triggered avulsion of the Ganges River at ~2.5 ka leading to relocation of the mainstem channel belt in the Bengal delta.

Use of Sodium Channel Blockers in the Thr226Met Pathologic Variant of SCN1A: A Case Report.

The Thr226Met pathologic variant of the gene has been associated with the clinical development of an early infantile developmental and epileptic encephalopathy (EIDEE) different from Dravet's syndrome. The electrophysiological mechanisms of the mutated channel lead to a paradoxical gain and loss of function. The use of sodium channel blockers (SCB) that counteract this gain of function has been described in previous studies and they can be safely administered to patients carrying mutations in other sodium channel subtypes without causing a worsening of seizures.

This study examined whether an alignment of physical activity (PA) between osteoarthritis patients and their spouses, which was previously proven by accelerometry, might also be revealed by self-report. The PA of 28 cohabitating couples (58-83 years) was assessed by means of synchronous accelerometry (ActiGraph wGTX3-BT) and compared to their according self-reports in the German Physical Activity, Exercise, and Sport Questionnaire (BSA-F). Both methods were used to quantify the average weekly light PA, moderate to vigorous PA (MVPA), and total PA.
