Although symptoms of pancreatic diseases such as pancreatitis, acute and chronic and, carcinoma of the pancreas are mainly gastrointestinal in nature, the extra-pancreatic symptoms are also important. These include skin symptoms, such as pancreatic panniculitis, acanthosis nigricans, livedo reticularis, necrolytic migratory erythema, cutaneous signs of hemorrhage, as in persons with severe acute pancreatitis, or the finding of cutaneous metastases of pancreatic carcinoma, which may be a sign of advanced disease. The pancreas is therefore one of those organs for which diagnosis and therapy are often multidisciplinary.

We hypothesized that in the early phase of angiotensin II (ANG II)-dependent hypertension with developed left ventricular hypertrophy, cardioprotective mechanism(s) are fully activated. The experiments were performed in transgenic rats with inducible hypertension, noninduced rats served as controls.

The most abundant members of these human lectins, galectin-1 (Gal-1) and galectin-3 (Gal-3), participate in a number of pathologies including cancerogenesis and metastatic formation. In this study, we synthesized a series of fifteen -(2-hydroxypropyl)methacrylamide (HPMA)-based glycopolymers with varying LacNAc amounts and presentations and evaluated the impact of their architecture on the binding affinity to Gal-1 and Gal-3.

Here, we investigated the action of a novel EET analog EET-B on the progression of post-myocardial infarction (MI) heart failure in spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR). Adult male SHR were divided into vehicle- and EET-B (10 mg/kg/day; p.

We studied consequences of a changed perinatal environment by initiating the cross-fostering of homozygous Ren-2 transgenic rat (TGR) offspring to normotensive, transgene-negative control mothers, and vice versa. We hypothesized that cross-fostering to a normotensive female can attenuate the development of malignant hypertension in TGR offspring (TGRx) and change their salt-sensitive response.
