Medical nutrition therapy in physiological pregnancy and in pregnancy complicated by obesity and/or diabetes: SID-AMD recommendations.

Proper nutrition is essential during pregnancy to ensure an adequate supply of nutrients to the foetus and adequate maternal weight gain. In pregnancy complicated by diabetes (both gestational and pre-gestational), diet in terms of both the intake and quality of carbohydrates is an essential factor in glycaemic control. Maternal BMI at conception defines the correct weight increase during gestation in order to reduce maternal-foetal complications related to hypo- or hyper-nutrition.

Glycemic control and cancer outcomes in oncologic patients with diabetes: an Italian Association of Medical Oncology (AIOM), Italian Association of Medical Diabetologists (AMD), Italian Society of Diabetology (SID), Italian Society of Endocrinology (SIE), Italian Society of Pharmacology (SIF) multidisciplinary critical view.

Background:  Increasing evidence suggests that diabetes increases the risk of developing different types of cancer. Hyperinsulinemia, hyperglycemia and chronic inflammation, characteristic of diabetes, could represent possible mechanisms involved in cancer development in diabetic patients. At the same time, cancer increases the risk of developing new-onset diabetes, mainly caused by the use of specific anticancer therapies.

Efficacy of a phone reminder to improve adherence to post-partum glucose tolerance testing after gestational diabetes and clinical predictors of post-partum follow-up compliance.

Aim: To assess the effectiveness of a phone reminder to improve adherence to post-partum glucose tolerance testing in women with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) and to identify clinical predictors of adherence to post-partum follow-up.

Methods: Retrospective study including 543 women with GDM. We assessed the adherence rate to post-partum glucose tolerance testing in women who received a phone reminder (n = 297) compared to women not alerted (n = 246).
