Aim: Pressure-ulcer occurrence in the seated patient is understudied. Preventative devices have been developed and are prescribed commonly, but there is little quantitative evidence of their effectiveness. This study explores the concept of a lateral pressure device, a prevention device that applies pressure to the sides of the seated buttocks, to reduce the amount of tissue distortion and blood-vessel occlusion.

Aims: Prolonged wear of filtering facepiece 3 (FFP3) masks during the COVID-19 pandemic has led to dermatoses, including pressure sores. This study aimed to better understand the local scale and nature of the problem, coping strategies, and impact on those affected.
Methods: A survey was designed by plastic surgeons, tissue viability nurses, and critical care doctors.
Establishing vascular access and preventing infection, both at insertion and during ongoing care is generally the top priority; the maintenance of optimal skin integrity is often a distant secondary consideration. Skin can react to different types of dressings or adhesives, or problems can arise relating to the securement of lines or the development of sensitivities to cleaning solutions. Clearly, these scenarios are not limited to the securement of vascular access devices; however, a patient with a long-term vascular access device may not have other options for vascular access, which makes this a very important and yet largely unrecognised area.
