[Status of glycolysis in newborns with hypoxia].

An incriase has been shown in the blood content of lactate, NADH2, pyruvate, activity of lactatedehydrogenase in hypoxic newborn infants, which fact is believed to have a positive character. Under conditions of deficient supply of tissues with oxygen activization of glycolysis is of compensatory character. The results obtained should be regarded as a positive factor aimed to make up for the fund of NADH2, a potential energy product securing ATP synthesis through aerobic mechanism.

[Vitamin status in newborns of healthy mothers and of mothers suffering from hypertensive disease].

The vitamin providing of the new-born children from the healthy mothers and from those with hypertonia of stages I-II has been investigated by the blood parameters and excretion of vitamins and their metabolites with urine. No principle differences were found between the both groups indices. The insufficient provision with thiamine, riboflavine and pyridoxine was revealed in 20-80% and deep deficit of thiamine in 40-60%.

[Status of the antioxidant system and sorbitol pathway of glucose metabolism in diabetes mellitus].

It is found that antioxidative activity (AOA) and activity of glutathione-transferase in postmitochondrial placenta fraction of pregnant women with diabetes mellitus is lowered. Depression of AOA in placenta associated with a decrease of UDA and ceruloplasmin amount in blood of the newborns shows the exhaustion of the antioxidative protection system. A decrease of enzyme activity at the sorbitol way of glucose exchange (sorbitol-dehydrogenase and aldose reductase) in placenta reflects accumulation of sorbitol in tissue, which intensifies the damage of membrane structures in placenta.

[Antiradical properties and antioxidant activity of ecdysterone].

Antiradical properties and total antioxidative activity of ecdysterone (10(-6)-10(-3)M were found on the model systems--photochemical one and that containing phosphatidylcholine liposomes oxidated with Fe2+ and Fe3+. The antioxidative activity of ecdysterone was shown to be comparable with that of the known inhibitors of peroxide oxidation of lipids--diethylparaphenylendiamine and ethylendiamine tetraacetate.

[The biological role of superoxide dismutase].

Recent data available in literature on mechanisms for regulation of the activity of superoxide dismutase (an antioxidant enzyme) and its interrelation to other enzymes and antioxidants are generalized. The role of superoxide dismutase in the ontogenesis and under different pathologies accompanied by the formation of free radicals is considered.
