The experience of human parenthood is near ubiquitous and can profoundly alter one's body, mind, and environment. However, we know very little about the long-term neural effects of parenthood for parents themselves, or the implications of pregnancy and caregiving experience on the aging adult brain. Here, we investigate the link between the number of children parented and age on brain function in 19,964 females and 17,607 males from the UK Biobank.

A key component of thrombotic events is the activation and aggregation of platelets, of which the P2Y and P2Y receptors play a crucial role in this process. Despite a breadth of knowledge on thrombosis and its mechanisms and treatment in various disorders in humans, there is less of an understanding of the expression and exact role of these receptors in companion animals such as dogs and cats.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFTemporal lobe epilepsy with hippocampal sclerosis (TLE-HS) is associated with a complex genetic architecture, but the translation from genetic risk factors to brain vulnerability remains unclear. Here, we examined associations between epilepsy-related polygenic risk scores for HS (PRS-HS) and brain structure in a large sample of neurotypical children, and correlated these signatures with case-control findings in in multicentric cohorts of patients with TLE-HS. Imaging-genetic analyses revealed PRS-related cortical thinning in temporo-parietal and fronto-central regions, strongly anchored to distinct functional and structural network epicentres.

Background: Cardiovascular and infective complications are commonly observed in patients receiving hemodialysis (HD) with cardiovascular events and infection-related complications being the first and second leading causes of death. Infective endocarditis (IE) is characterized by inflammation of the endocardium caused by infection, typically affecting the cardiac valves and can be in acute, subacute, or chronic forms. It is a serious complication within the HD population due to their predisposition for both infection and valvular damage.

Here, we simultaneously examined structural and functional brain network patterns in relation to dimensions of psychopathology in the Adolescent Brain Cognitive Development (ABCD) dataset. Several components were identified, recapitulating the psychopathology hierarchy, with the general psychopathology () factor explaining most covariance with multimodal imaging features, while the internalizing, externalizing, and neurodevelopmental dimensions were each associated with distinct morphological and functional connectivity signatures.
