Bullous pemphigoid (BP) is a chronic autoimmune subepidermal blistering disease, affecting mostly the elderly. Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is a set of metabolic disorders including obesity, hypertension, glucose intolerance, and dyslipidemia. Observational studies have revealed a correlation between BP and MetS with controversial results and the causal relationship needs to be clarified.

This study aimed to address this controversy and explore the underlying mechanisms of age-related differences in prosociality through the lens of social discounting and gain-and-loss framing. One hundred twenty-three younger adults and 135 older adults participated in a social discounting task (measuring prosocial tendencies toward various social relationships) with various framings (self-oriented framing, other-oriented framing, and control condition).

Targeting complex immunopathological microenvironment at SCI sites comprising inflammatory cytokines infiltration, oxidative stress and massive neuronal apoptosis, the conductive oriented nanofiber felt with efficient ROS clearance, anti-inflammatory effect and accelerating neural regeneration is constructed by step-growth addition polymerization and electrostatic spinning technique for SCI repair. The formation of innovative Fe-PDA-PAT chelate in nanofiber felt enhances hydrophilic, antioxidant, antibacterial, hemostatic and binding factor capacities, thereby regulating immune microenvironment of SCI.

Methods: We analyzed the clinical and survival outcomes of 50 patients with LM who received 50 mg IP after disease progression with epidermal growth factor receptor tyrosine kinase inhibitors (EGFR-TKIs) treatment between September 2021 and September 2023 at the Hunan Cancer Hospital. Treatment response was evaluated based on improvement in neurological symptoms/signs and Karnofsky Performance Status (KPS) scores.
With the increasing demand for reducing CO2 emissions by the International Maritime Organization (IMO), controlling a ship's energy consumption at the design stage is crucial for proposing a 'greener' design. Some efforts have been made to consider the Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) and the Energy Efficiency Operational Index (EEOI); however, the latter remains highly complex and contentious. In this study, a multistep optimization analysis method was developed to integrate EEDI and EEOI evaluations during the design stage to meet low emission requirements.
