Digital plethysmography and arginine metabolism in prehypertension: effect of nebivolol therapy.

Prehypertension is an important phenotype for cardiovascular risk and development of established hypertension. To better understand the early circulatory changes in this group, the authors studied 34 patients with prehypertension (blood pressure 120-139/80-89 mm Hg) using digital plethysmography for measurement of blood flow and reactive hyperemic index (RHI). Arterial augmentation index (AI) was also measured.

Modulation of energy and protein supplies in sequential feeding in laying hens.

Sequential feeding (SF) consists of splitting energy (E) and protein/calcium (P) fractions temporally, improving the feed conversion ratio (FCR) of hens compared with a continuous distribution during the day. In a previous study, the E fraction (with a low level of protein) was provided in the morning, whereas the P fraction (with low level of energy) was given in the afternoon. However, there is no clear evidence that a requirement in energy or proteins is connected to these distribution sequences, whereas the requirement for calcium is known to be required in the afternoon.

Effects on performance of ground wheat with or without insoluble fiber or whole wheat in sequential feeding for laying hens.

Sequential feeding (SF) is an innovative system for laying hens consisting of nutrients separating energy, protein, and calcium supplies to fulfill nutrient requirements at the relevant time of day. In previous studies, hens received whole wheat in the morning and a balancer diet (rich in protein and calcium) in the afternoon. To improve SF utilization, the aim was to substitute whole wheat in the morning by an alternative energy supply: ground wheat and ground corn, with or without a proportion of whole wheat and insoluble fiber.

The effect of nebivolol versus metoprolol succinate extended release on asymmetric dimethylarginine in hypertension.

This study sought to determine if metoprolol succinate ER (MET), and nebivolol (NEB), a β1-AR with increased bioavailability of nitric oxide (NO), would have differing effects on plasma asymmetric dimethylarginine concentration in hypertensives. It was hypothesized that NEB, a β1-AR antagonist and β3-AR agonist with NO-releasing properties, and MET, only a β1-AR antagonist, would have different effects on plasma asymmetric dimethylarginine (ADMA) concentration. Forty-one hypertensive subjects randomly received either 50 mg of MET (n = 19) or 5 mg of NEB (n = 22) for 4 weeks followed by 100 mg MET and 10 mg NEB for 4 weeks.

Adaptation of wheat and protein-mineral concentrate intakes by individual hens fed ad libitum in sequential or in loose-mix systems.
