The A549 cell line has become a cornerstone in biomedical research, particularly in cancer studies and serves as a critical tool in cytotoxicity studies and drug screening where it is used to evaluate the impact of pharmaceutical compounds on cellular viability. One of the most widely adopted methods for viability assessment, which is also used in evaluating drug cytotoxicity, is the resazurin-based assay. This assay exploits the ability of living cells to convert resazurin into fluorescent resorufin, providing a reliable indicator of metabolic activity.

The resazurin assay, also known as the Alamar Blue assay, stands as a cornerstone technique in cell biology, microbiology, and drug development. It assesses the viability of cells through the conversion of resazurin into highly fluorescent resorufin. The resulting fluorescence intensity provides a reliable estimate of viable cell numbers.

Article Synopsis
  • - This study aimed to explore how liver spontaneous attenuation (LSA) measured by CT can indicate the severity of acute pancreatitis (AP).
  • - It analyzed data from 467 patients admitted for AP, finding that lower LSA was significantly linked to more severe cases, particularly in individuals with alcoholic pancreatitis.
  • - The results suggest that LSA could serve as an additional indicator to assess the clinical severity of AP, enhancing diagnosis and treatment strategies.

Purpose: To identify variables associated with inconclusive ultrasound examination and the need for further abdominopelvic computed tomography (CT) examination for the diagnosis of acute appendicitis.

Materials And Methods: A total of 105 adult patients with acute appendicitis were included. There were 55 patients (38 men, 17 women; mean age, 23±9 [SD] years; range: 15-58 years) with a diagnosis of acute appendicitis using ultrasound alone and 50 patients (30 men, 20 women; mean age, 31±14 [SD] years; range: 16-83 years) who required further CT.
