Comparison of the efficacy of neoadjuvant chemotherapy and neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy in locally advanced rectal cancer patients: meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.

Background: Preoperative neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy (nCRT) is considered to be the standard treatment strategy for locally advanced rectal cancer (LARC); however, the risk of adverse events and postoperative recurrence remains significant. This study aimed to evaluate the non-inferiority of neoadjuvant chemotherapy (nCT) compared with nCRT in patients with LARC and to assess the possibility of eliminating radiotherapy on the basis of guaranteed efficacy.

Materials And Methods: We searched the PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane Library databases to identify randomized controlled trials (RCTs) comparing the efficacy of nCRT and nCT for LARC.

Ceftazidime-resistance in pediatric melioidosis: A case report and literature review.

We report a first case of ceftazidime-resistant pediatric melioidosis involving a previously healthy seven-year-old boy who presented with right lobar pneumonia complicated with a 5-cm lung abscess. Ceftazidime was initiated on Day-6 of admission when (ceftazidime-susceptible, minimum inhibitory concentration [MIC] 1.0 mcg/mL) was isolated from blood.

Development and validation of a prediction model of frailty risk in community-dwelling older adults: From a national longitudinal survey.

Objectives: This study aimed to develop and validate a risk prediction model for frailty in elderly using a nationally representative longitudinal survey database.

Study Design: Longitudinal study based on public databases.

Methods: Three continuous cohorts of elderly aged 65 years or older from the Chinese Longitudinal Healthy Longevity Survey, with the 2008-2018 cohort as the development cohort.

LINC01224 promotes the Warburg effect in gastric cancer by activating the miR-486-5p/PI3K axis.

The Warburg effect, a common feature of solid tumors, rewires the metabolism and promotes growth, survival, proliferation, and long-term maintenance in gastric cancer (GC). We performed in vitro and in vivo studies of the pathogenesis of GC to investigate the effects and mechanism of LINC01224 in this cancer. qRT-PCR was used to measure the expression of LINC01224 or miR-486-5p in GC cells, and the expression of LINC01224 in GC tissues by FISH (Fluorescence in situ hybridization) analysis was evaluated.

Living donor uterus transplant research project in Singapore: Progress of the first case.

Introduction: To report the progress of the human living uterus transplant research project in Singapore.

Material And Methods: The uterus transplant research project began in 2012 with a collaboration between the Swedish and Singapore teams. Ethics approval was obtained from the SingHealth Centralised Institutional Review Board, the SingHealth Transplant and the Singapore General Hospital Biomedical Ethics Committee to perform 5 uterus transplant procedures in a collaborative multi-site research study at the Singapore General Hospital.
