Briefly, the endotoxin has been extracted from salmonellae with hypertonic solutions. The crude endotoxin was shown to contain several antigens, mainly r(1), r(2), r(3), or heterologous antigen.

The chloroplasts were intact by the criteria of ultrastructure and their content of ribulose diphosphate carboxylase and soluble protein. The chloroplasts also contained ribosomes and ribosomal RNA uncontaminated by the corresponding cytoplasmic particles.

Most of the DNA, but less than onetenth of the RNA, of the original cells was recovered in the purified nuclei. The nuclei appeared substantially intact as observed by light or electron microscopy.
