Comparison of end-to-side and side-to-side anastomosis techniques in arteriovenous fistula for hemodialysis. A systematic review and meta-analysis.

Autogenous arteriovenous fistula (AVF) is the vascular access of choice for chronic kidney disease to patients requiring hemodialysis. However, there still needs to be more consensus on whether the best surgical approach is an end-of-vein to side-of-artery (ETS) or a side-of-vein to side-of-artery (STS) anastomosis. This study aims to compare venous maturation rates, mid-term patency and post-operative steal syndrome rates between ETS and STS techniques for arteriovenous fistulas.

Contribution of informal caregivers to self-care in individuals with heart failure.

Objectives: to evaluate the contribution of informal caregivers to the self-care of individuals with heart failure.

Methods: a cross-sectional study was conducted with 87 caregivers from March to October 2022 in the city of João Pessoa/PB. The caregivers' contribution was assessed using the Caregiver Contribution to Self-Care of Heart Failure Index instrument.

Management of Short Bowel Syndrome With Chronic Intestinal Failure: A Single-Center Experience in Portugal.

Introduction: Short bowel syndrome with chronic intestinal failure (SBS/CIF) is the inability to maintain protein-energy, fluid, electrolyte, or micronutrient balance due to a short bowel. Although SBS/CIF is rare, its clinical management is complex, challenging, expensive, and time-consuming.

Aim: This study aimed to analyze a single center's experience with SBS/CIF in adult patients treated with home parenteral nutrition (HPN).

Unique report of iliocaval endovascular reconstruction successfully enabling a kidney transplant.

Patients with end-stage renal disease and iliocaval venous obstruction are normally nonviable recipients of kidney transplantation. We report a case of a 34-year-old male patient who has been receiving hemodialysis as renal replacement therapy for 6 years due to immunoglobulin A nephropathy. Past medical history included multiple central venous catheter infections and catheter-associated thrombosis.
