Background And Objectives: Nonmedical use of prescription tranquilizers/sedatives (NMUPTS) is associated with a 15-times increased likelihood of polysubstance use (PSU). This is correlated with an increased risk for use disorders and death, therefore, to inform prevention efforts, we identified PSU profiles among adults reporting sleep-related NMUPTS.
Methods: National Survey on Drug Use and Health 2015-2019 participants with past 12-month sleep-related NMUPTS and use of an additional drug(s) (n = 2603) were studied.
Background: Preventing anxiety and depression among college students is a pressing public health need. Recent meta-analyses have examined mobile mindfulness interventions in adult populations; however, college students are in a unique developmental stage and institutional setting.
Methods: We conducted a systematic literature review and meta-analysis of published and unpublished studies in English language on the acceptability, usage, and efficacy of mindfulness training apps on mental health among non-clinical samples of college students.
In response to a need expressed by water actors to support them in identifying appropriate actions for protecting drinking water sources, we modelled, designed, implemented, tested, and validated a prototype case-based reasoning (CBR) system. This required an intensive knowledge acquisition and structuring process which we conducted in collaboration with 102 water management and governance actors in Quebec, Canada. Knowledge was organized in a case base containing nearly 200 past experiences implementing water protection actions at different decision-making scales (local, regional, provincial), by various organizations (government, municipalities, water-related associations), over the last two decades.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFWe investigated lattice strain on alloyed surfaces using ∼10 nm core-shell nanoparticles with controlled size, shape, and composition. We developed a wet-chemistry method for synthesizing small octahedral PdPt alloy nanoparticles and Au@PdPt core-shell nanoparticles with Pd-Pt alloy shells and Au cores. Upon introduction of the Au core, the size and shape of the overall nanostructure and the composition of the alloyed PdPt were maintained, enabling the use of the electrooxidation of formic acid as a probe to compare the surface structures with different lattice strain.
