Objective: The nature and magnitude of the immunologic response to implantation of human cryopreserved aortic valve allografts was investigated.

Methods: Twenty aortic valve allograft recipients were investigated for donor-specific antibody and T-cell-mediated responses with serial flow cytometric and microlymphocytotoxic crossmatch assays and one-way mixed lymphocyte cultures.

Results: Donor-specific immunoglobulin G antibodies to class I and II human leukocyte antigens were first detected in the serum of all aortic valve allograft recipients at 30 days after implantation and persisted in substantial amounts in all but one of the recipients at day 365.

A descriptive study was undertaken to establish the 95 percentile limits (proposed normal reference range) for pressure beneath the hallux, metatarsal heads, and heel in a group of healthy adult subjects. A new force plate device capable of accurately measuring discrete areas of pressure beneath the human foot with high temporal and spatial resolution was used. The system is capable of accurately measuring plantar foot pressure during dynamic and static foot function.

We measured by different techniques the ferritin concentration in serum in two large asymptomatic Australian population samples: 1367 bank employees and 601 insurance corporation employees. Ethanol intake, diet, the frequency of blood donation, smoking and exercise habits, and past medical history were documented. The median concentration of ferritin in serum varied according to age and sex, but was generally higher than in previously reported populations under age 65 years.

We describe a rapid and sensitive enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) for quantifying ferritin in human and rat biological fluids. We used chlorophenol red beta-D-galactopyranoside as the colorimetric substrate of beta-galactosidase (EC 3.2.
