Realizing the full potential of genome editing for crop improvement has been slow due to inefficient methods for reagent delivery and the reliance on tissue culture for creating gene-edited plants. RNA viral vectors offer an alternative approach for delivering gene engineering reagents and bypassing the tissue culture requirement. Viruses, however, are often excluded from the shoot apical meristem, making virus-mediated gene editing inefficient in some species.

Emotion Recognition and Self-Reported Emotion Processing in Alcohol and Cannabis Co-Using Young Adults.

Alcohol and cannabis use are each associated with impairments in emotion recognition accuracy, which may promote interpersonal problems. It is unclear if emotion recognition or self-reported emotion processing differs between young adult alcohol and cannabis co-users (ACCs) and healthy controls (HCs). This study examined whether ACCs and HCs differed in their emotion recognition across two different behavioral tasks with static or dynamic faces and determined if there were differences in self-reported socio-emotional processing and alexithymia.

Introduction: Surgical cap attire plays an important role in creating a safe and sterile environment in procedural suites, thus the choice of reusable versus disposable caps has become an issue of much debate. Given the lack of evidence for differences in surgical site infection (SSI) risk between the two, selecting the cap option with a lower carbon footprint may reduce the environmental impact of surgical procedures. However, many institutions continue to recommend the use of disposable bouffant caps.

How SWAT Changed the Conversation: Implementation of a Discharge SWAT Team Improves Morale and Facilitates Communication During the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Purpose Of Study: Hospital overcrowding and delays in discharge are serious issues in the modern health care landscape and can lead to poor patient outcomes and health care personnel (HCP) burnout. The goal of this project was to develop a collaborative forum where HCP representing the entire spectrum of the inpatient care team, including case management team members, could connect to discuss challenges and barriers to patient discharge. The following describes the development, implementation, and outcomes of the discharge SWAT (Solutions, Wins, Actions, and Tactics) team, which is a 30-min virtual daily meeting where discussion is primarily centered around challenges in discharging individual patients and addressing case manager needs.

Sexual dimorphism in melanocyte stem cell behavior reveals combinational therapeutic strategies for cutaneous repigmentation.

Vitiligo is an autoimmune skin disease caused by cutaneous melanocyte loss. Although phototherapy and T cell suppression therapy have been widely used to induce epidermal re-pigmentation, full pigmentation recovery is rarely achieved due to our poor understanding of the cellular and molecular mechanisms governing this process. Here, we identify unique melanocyte stem cell (McSC) epidermal migration rates between male and female mice, which is due to sexually dimorphic cutaneous inflammatory responses generated by ultra-violet B exposure.
