Screening for Autism Spectrum Disorder in Children and Adolescents With Leber's Congenital Amaurosis.

Purpose: To investigate autism spectrum disorder (ASD) indicators in children with Leber congenital amaurosis (LCA).

Study Design: Cross-sectional, prospective, and correlational study.

Methods: Setting: It was conducted at the Institute of Ocular Genetics, the Department of Ophthalmology at Federal University of São Paulo (UNIFESP), and the Autism Spectrum Disorder Laboratory, in São Paulo, Brazil.

Association between ADHD symptoms and inhibition-related brain activity using functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS).

Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is associated with deficits in inhibitory functions including interference control, inhibition of prepotent/automatic responses and suppression of already initiated responses. This study used functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) to investigate the neural basis of these three forms of inhibition assessed by a recently developed behavioral protocol combining the Stroop-matching/stop-signal task in twenty-five young adults with inattention, impulsivity and/or hyperactivity symptoms. The severity of ADHD symptoms was measured using the Adult ADHD Self-Report Scale (ASRS).

Inhibition of FGF receptor impairs primitive endoderm differentiation in bovine embryos.

The first cellular differentiation event in the pre-implantation embryo results in the trophectoderm (TE) and the inner cell mass (ICM). A second event occurs in the latter, resulting in the epiblast and the primitive endoderm (PE). This second differentiation is still not fully characterized in bovine development, although it is likely to involve FGF signalling.

Health Problems in Individuals With PWS Are Associated With Lower Quality of Life for Their Parents: A Snapshot in the Brazilian Population.

Prader-Willi syndrome (PWS) is a complex genetic disorder requiring interdisciplinary team monitoring and intensive care by parents. So far there is little information on people with PWS in Brazil. Our aim was to describe health problems and treatments used by people with PWS in Brazil and their relationship to their parents' quality of life.

Early mammal embryogenesis starts with oocyte fertilization, giving rise to the zygote. The events that the newly formed zygote surpasses are crucial to the embryo developmental success. Shortly after activation of its genome, cells of the embryo segregate into the inner cell mass (ICM) or the trophectoderm (TE).
