Production of affordable coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccines in low- and lower-middle-income countries is needed. NDV-HXP-S is an inactivated egg-based recombinant Newcastle disease virus vaccine expressing the spike protein of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). A public sector manufacturer in Vietnam assessed the immunogenicity of NDV-HXP-S (COVIVAC) relative to an authorized vaccine.

We report a case of a 28-year-old male with severe burns and a TBSA of 49% who presented after a fire incident. The trauma team managed the patient's fluid resuscitation, followed by early burn debridement.

Methods: We reviewed charts of all patients who had elective general surgery at New Mexico Veterans Affairs Health Care System, Albuquerque hospital from 2011 through 2014. Demographic data and patient characteristics (eg, comorbidities, smoking/drinking history), estimated blood loss (EBL), pre- and postoperative hematocrit levels, and signs and symptoms of anemia were compared in patients who did or did not receive a blood transfusion within 72 hours of the operation.
BACKGROUNDThe mechanism(s) responsible for the efficacy of WHO-recommended malaria vaccine RTS,S/AS01 are not completely understood. We previously identified RTS,S vaccine-induced Plasmodium falciparum circumsporozoite protein-specific (PfCSP-specific) antibody measures associated with protection from controlled human malaria infection (CHMI). Here, we tested the protection-predicting capability of these measures in independent CHMI studies.

Here we used bioinformatics to screen 84 farmed barramundi transcriptomes to identify novel viruses that could threaten barramundi aquaculture and to establish a barramundi aquaculture virome. We discovered five novel viruses: latid herpesvirus 1 (LatHV-1) from the Alloherpesviridae family, barramundi parvovirus 1 (BParV1) from the Parvoviridae family, barramundi calicivirus 1 (BCaV1) from the Caliciviridae family, and barramundi associated picorna-like virus 1 and 2 (BPicV1 and BPicV2) from the Picornaviridae family.
