The European sea bass (Dicentrarchus labrax), one of the most produced marine fish species in Europe, is acutely vulnerable to multiple infectious hazards. In this study, we investigated the potential probiotic effect of some marine Pseudoalteromonas bacterial strains against two major pathogens of this species, Vibrio harveyi and the nervous necrosis virus (NNV), and examined their antibiofilm effect. Impregnation phase was done by repeated immersion of juvenile's sea bass during 8 to 12 weeks in seawater containing the probiotic candidates at a concentration of 10 CFU/mL.

Three bacterial strains, named h-66, h-124 and h-125, were isolated from the haemolymph of different specimens of the flat oyster collected in Concarneau bay (Finistère, France). These strains were characterized by a polyphasic approach, including (i) whole genome analyses with 16S rRNA gene sequence alignment and pangenome analysis, determination of the G+C content, average nucleotide identity (ANI), and DNA-DNA hybridization (DDH), and (ii) fatty acid methyl ester and other phenotypic analyses. Strains h-66, h-124 and h-125 were closely related to both type strains RA15 and PAMC 28425 with less than 93.

Although vibrios are frequently associated with marine organisms mortality outbreaks, knowledge on their ecology and pathogenicity is sparse, thus limiting disease management and prophylactic strategies. Here, we investigated V. aestuarianus infection onset and progression in the wild, taking advantage of a 'claire' pond: a semi-closed system with limited seawater renewal, theoretically more adapted to disease transmission.
