Issue Addressed: Little research has examined issues surrounding employee smoking outside smoke-free workplaces. The study's aims were to: 1) document the proportion of NSW indoor employees covered by total workplace smoking bans; 2) examine community perceptions of employee smoking during working hours; 3) identify the characteristics of having a supportive attitude toward tobacco control in the workplace; and 4) describe relationships between smoking relapse and workplace-related smoking.
Methods: Two cross-sectional, computer-assisted telephone interview surveys of randomly selected adults were conducted.
Exposure to ultraviolet (UV) light from the sun or solaria is a major contributor to high rates of skin cancer. The study aimed to explore the intentions of active tan seekers in relation to the substitutional use of sunless tanning products. Participants were reluctant to reduce UV exposure in favour of using sunless tanning products, which were considered to be another tanning method rather than an avenue for reducing skin cancer risk.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFPurpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of a combined topical and local anesthesia consisting of a transrectal lidocaine suppository followed by periprostatic nerve block (PNB) in comparison to the combination of transrectally applied lidocaine gel followed by PNB and PNB alone as methods of reducing pain during transrectal prostate biopsy.
Patients And Methods: 100 patients were randomized to four groups and received either a placebo suppository or 10 ml of 2% lidocaine gel or a suppository containing 60 or 120 mg of lidocaine 1 h before biopsy. Additionally, every patient received a PNB using 5 ml 2% lidocaine.

Background: This study aimed to explore the effect of an industry-led self-education intervention on voluntary compliance with the international recommendations on solaria for cosmetic purposes in New South Wales, Australia, and to establish current compliance with recommendations. This study was conducted before the recent introduction of enforceable legislation in some Australian states.
Methods: Simulated customer visits were made to a sample of 106 solaria in 2003 and 2006.
Background: The potential of a new continuous-wave (CW) 70-W, 2.013-microm thulium-doped yttrium aluminium garnet (Tm:YAG) laser for the endoscopic treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is investigated.
Objective: The simultaneous combination of vaporisation and resection of prostatic tissue in a retrograde fashion is the main characteristic of this new laser technique.
