Structure of Plastid Genomes of Photosynthetic Eukaryotes.

This review presents current views on the plastid genomes of higher plants and summarizes data on the size, structural organization, gene content, and other features of plastid DNAs. Special emphasis is placed on the properties of organization of land plant plastid genomes (nucleoids) that distinguish them from bacterial genomes. The prospects of genetic engineering of chloroplast genomes are discussed.

[Nonspecific lung diseases among the population of Western Siberia].

Epidemiological surveys conducted in the city of Novosibirsk and the Novosibirsk region in 1980-1986, revealed a high though unequal prevalence of nonspecific pulmonary diseases among different age, sex and occupational groups of the urban and rural population. Chronic bronchitis ranked first in the structure of chronic nonspecific pulmonary diseases. ARVI and recurrent acute pneumonia, unfavorable working conditions and harmful habits influenced the development of chronic bronchitis.
