The portable glucometers "Satellite Express" and "Satellite Express mini" were applied during 35 days to analyze 200 blood samples of patients with diabetes mellitus type I and II and of healthy people. The results were compared with the data of reference analyzer The results of clinical laboratory trials revealed that these glucometers have enough degree of accuracy detection of glucose in capillary blood - 100% of results are within the permissible limits as directed by ISO 15197:2003. Furthermore, 98.

The content of glycated hemoglobin (Hb A1c) evaluated by high pressure chromatography on a VARIANT analyzer using Hb A1c software correlated with the mean daily blood glucose level in the majority of diabetics with types 1 and 2 disease and helped evaluate the compensation of diabetes mellitus during the latest 2-3 months of observation. Low Hb A1c values in combination with an extra hemoglobin fraction, unidentified by the software we used, were detected in 3 Russian women suffering from type 2 diabetes mellitus, with high blood glucose levels. Application of Hemoglobinopathy software showed an abnormal spectrum of hemoglobin fractions in the blood of all 3 patients: appearance of hemoglobin D paralleled by decrease of Hb A0.

The activity and isoenzyme profile of lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), alkaline and acid phosphatase were studied in tumors of the tongue, cheek, oral floor, soft palate and palatine tonsils (n = 100), leukoplakia (n = 7) and in the oral mucosa at corresponding sites in healthy subjects (n = 66), to develop tests for early detection, monitoring and prognosis of oral cancer. Levels of alpha-amylase and acid phosphatase were measured in saliva and blood serum of patients with oral cancer and healthy subjects. The activity of LDH and alkaline and acid phosphatase in oral malignancies were 1.

Activity of placental alkaline phosphatase (PAP) was studied in blood serum of 53 healthy persons and of 72 oncologic patients, using solid-phase immunoenzymatic analysis with polyclonal antibodies towards PAP. The enzyme was detected both in blood serum of healthy persons and of oncologic patients. The blood serum under study was preheated at 65 degrees in order to inactivate the intestinal phosphatase--the only isoenzyme cross-reacting with antibodies to thermostable PAP.

In order to identify early signs of nephrotoxicity in 38 patients with malignant tumors of the testicle, the data of 3 biochemical tests (measurements of gamma-glutamyltranspeptidase (gamma-GT) activity in the urine, of the content of creatinine and urea in blood serum) were compared. Activation of gamma-GT in the urine may be viewed as the first and early sign of nephrotoxicity, since the rise of creatinine and urea in the blood was observed later. The magnitude of gamma-GT activity (means + 2 sigma) - 5.
