Tics can have a serious impact on the quality of life of children and their families. Behavioural therapy is an evidence-based first line treatment for tic disorders. This randomised controlled trial studied the efficacy of a brief, condensed group-based programme for children with tics (Dutch Trial Registry NL8052, 27 September 2019).

Patients with acute-on-chronic liver failure (ACLF) are at risk of developing acute hepatic decompensation and organ failures with an unraveled complex mechanism. An altered immune response toward insults in cirrhotic compared with healthy livers may contribute to the ACLF development. Therefore, we aim to investigate the differences in inflammatory responses between cirrhotic and healthy livers using human precision-cut liver slices (PCLSs) upon the lipopolysaccharide (LPS) challenge.

Article Synopsis
  • Osteoprotegerin (OPG) is influenced by transforming growth factor β (TGFβ) and other mediators, and its expression is associated with liver fibrosis severity and treatment responses.
  • In experiments, OPG expression was primarily induced by interleukin 13 (IL13) in liver slices and fibroblasts, with STAT6 signaling and IL13 receptor activation playing key roles in this process.
  • The findings suggest that targeting OPG, linked to both IL13 and TGFβ pathways, could provide a novel approach to treating liver fibrosis.
