Article Synopsis
  • Plasmonic nanoparticle-based biosensors face challenges in detecting microorganisms in complex biofluids, but a new sensor array uses the dissociation of peptide-aggregated nanoparticles with HS-PEG polymers for improved detection.
  • The study reveals that HS-PEGs of different sizes effectively dissociate gold and silver nanoparticle clusters, allowing for the discrimination of various bacteria, fungi, and viruses in saliva and water at a high confidence level.
  • The sensor array successfully identified specific subtypes of viruses like SARS-CoV-2 and influenza, and differentiated between healthy saliva and samples from patients with periodontitis or COVID-19.

Sertraline, a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor, is a medication recommended as a third line treatment of cholestatic liver injury pruritis. We report a case of a young male who developed liver injury secondary to self-administration of anabolic steroids and who complained of persistent pruritis leading to a treatment by sertraline. Two days later, the patient was admitted to the hospital with a severe hypoglycemia, while the liver function tests were in amelioration.

Candida's transition to a pathogenic state and its interaction with exacerbate periodontal disease severity. However, current treatments for these infections differ, and combined therapy remains unexplored.

Triggering lysosome-regulated immunogenic cell death (ICD, e.g., pyroptosis and necroptosis) with nanomedicines is an emerging approach for turning an "immune-cold" tumor "hot"-a key challenge faced by cancer immunotherapies.

Carbohydrate counting (CC) is a meal planning practice for diabetic patients, focusing on tracking the amount of carbohydrates in grams consumed at meals to manage blood glucose (BG) levels. The purpose of this narrative review is to evaluate the impact of CC in helping people with diabetes manage their condition. It reveals that CC offers superior glycemic control and flexibility compared to other food planning techniques.
