Objectives: Gerotranscendence has gained recognition as an important psychosocial theory, with leading studies promoting it through intervention programs. However, to date, few interventions have involved older adults living in Long-Term Care (LTC) facilities. This study aimed to explore the viability of implementing six-week program on gerotranscendence [GLOW] in an LTC facility.

Analysis of sleep-wake cycle in elderly people plays an important role in the quality of life of this population. The goal of this study is to analyze circadian rhythm of elderly people with actigraphy, subjective questionnaires and their relationship with balance control evaluated by center of pressure (COP) variables. The sleep-wake cycle of nine elderly subjects were evaluated using a wearable actigraph for 14 days.

Breast cancer, the most prevalent cancer among women, poses a significant healthcare challenge, demanding effective early detection for optimal treatment outcomes. Mammography, the gold standard for breast cancer detection, employs low-dose X-rays to reveal tissue details, particularly cancerous masses and calcium deposits. This work focuses on evaluating the impact of incorporating anatomical knowledge to improve the performance and robustness of a breast cancer classification model.

A clinical need exists for more effective intravitreal (IVT) drug delivery systems (DDS). This study tested the hypothesis that a novel biodegradable, injectable microsphere-hydrogel drug delivery system loaded with aflibercept (aflibercept-DDS) would exhibit long-term safety and biocompatibility in a non-human primate (NHP) model. We generated aflibercept-loaded poly (lactic-co-glycolic acid) microparticles with a modified double emulsion technique then embedded them into a biodegradable, thermo-responsive poly (ethylene glycol)-co-(L-lactic-acid) diacrylate/N-isopropylacrylamide hydrogel.

Background: The association of genetic variants and environmental factors contribute to increased susceptibility to arterial hypertension (AH). Polymorphisms of the angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) gene have been identified as a genetic risk factor related to blood pressure (BP) levels and liver function, since they influence the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS).

Objective: To evaluate the influence of the rs4344 polymorphism of the ACE gene on AH and biochemical parameters of liver function (ALT, AST, GGT and ALP) in normotensive and hypertensive patients.
