: The high recurrence rate of bacterial vaginosis (BV) after antibiotic treatment is at least partially attributed to resistant bacteria. The CAPRISA 083 (CAP083) study investigated the influence of metronidazole (MTZ) treatment on the vaginal microbiome in 56 South African women diagnosed with BV. To explore the etiology of recurrent BV in this cohort, we retrospectively analyzed vaginal swabs collected in CAP083 before and after MTZ treatment.

Limestone (calcite, CaCO) is an abundant and cost-effective source of calcium oxide (CaO) for cement and lime production. However, the thermochemical decomposition of limestone (∼800 °C, 1 bar) to produce lime (CaO) results in substantial carbon dioxide (CO) emissions and energy use, i.e.

Introduction: Although hereditary male neoplasms are quite rare, individuals harbouring germline pathogenic variants (PVs) may have a risk of developing tumours associated with Hereditary Breast and Ovarian Cancer (HBOC) syndrome, including male breast (MBC), prostate (PCa) and pancreatic (PC) cancers, and melanoma. Women and men showed a comparable genetic architecture of cancer susceptibility, but there are some gender-specific features. Since little is known about cancer genetic susceptibility in male population, our study was aimed at investigating the frequency of PVs in men with HBOC syndrome-associated tumors, in order to understand whether differences in gender may reflect in the prevalence and spectrum of germline alterations.
