Blending different grape varieties or wines is essential in winemaking to enhance sensory attributes, but could potentially impact the biological activity of the final product. This study investigates the polyphenolic profile and bioactivities of monovarietal wines Cabernet Sauvignon (CS) and Merlot (M), their blends in three different ratios (CS1M1, CS3M1, CS1M3), as well as one commercial coupage (CSM). Enzyme inhibition (α-amylase, α-glucosidase, lipase, tyrosinase), antioxidant properties (inhibition of AAPH-induced ROS generation in U937 cells and lipid peroxidation), and anti-inflammatory properties (inhibition of PGE production in U937 cells) were assessed.

Methods: A historical cohort study of all adults admitted to ICU with a pneumonia diagnosis in Alberta, Canada between May 1, 2020, and October 31, 2020.
Introduction: Central venous catheters are increasingly inserted using point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) guidance. Following insertion, it is still common to request a confirmatory chest radiograph for subclavian and internal jugular lines, at least outside of the operating theater. This scoping review addresses: (i) the justification for routine post-insertion radiographs, (ii) whether it would better to use post-insertion POCUS instead, and (iii) the perceived barriers to change.

Available data on their composition and potential health benefits are limited, so polyphenolic profile (HPLC analysis) and in vitro biological activities (enzyme inhibition, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory) of 24 Serbian orange wines were analyzed, including the correlation between determined composition and bioactivities. The wines displayed distinct polyphenolic profiles, enabling partial differentiation based on overall polyphenol content, including dominant components (catechin, gallic and caffeic acids), along with occasional occurrences of anthocyanins.

We evaluated the presence of right-to-left (R-L) shunts in COVID-19 and non-COVID ARDS patients using a comprehensive hypoxemia workup for shunt etiology and associations with mortality.
Design: Prospective, observational cohort study.
