Background: Silicon has an important role in regulating water management in plants. It is deposited in cell walls and creates a mechanical barrier against external factors. The aim of this study was to determine the role of silicon supplementation in the synthesis and distribution of callose in oilseed rape roots and to characterize the modifications of cell wall structure of these organs after exposure to drought stress.

Background: A subarachnoid hemorrhage due to an aneurysmal rupture (aSAH) is a serious condition with severe neurological consequences. The World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies (WFNS) classification is a reliable predictor of death and long-term disability in patients with aSAH. Poor-grade neurological conditions on admission in aSAH (PG-aSAH) are often linked to high mortality rates and unfavorable outcomes.

Article Synopsis
  • Aortic regurgitation (AR) affects heart mechanics, and this study focuses on how the regurgitant jet impacts regional longitudinal strain in patients.
  • In a study of 80 patients with chronic moderate/severe AR, 43% displayed a significant decrease (10 percentage points) in longitudinal strain in segments directly affected by the jet.
  • Patients with this regional strain impairment were less likely to show improvement in global longitudinal strain after surgery, suggesting a potential link between jet impact location and poorer postoperative recovery.

Background: Clinical trials have demonstrated the efficacy and safety of ustekinumab in Crohn's disease (CD). However, more data are necessary on the effectiveness of ustekinumab in bio-naïve patients in real-life studies.

Objectives: The aim of our study was to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of ustekinumab in patients with CD refractory or intolerant to conventional therapy and without previous exposure to biological drugs.

Introduction: Proportionality of secondary mitral regurgitation (sMR) may be a key factor in deciding whether a patient may benefit from mitral intervention. The aim of this study was to evaluate the prognostic value of two different concepts of proportionality and assess their ability to improve MR stratification proposed by the American Society of Echocardiography (ASE) guidelines.

Methods: We conducted a retrospective analysis in patients with reduced left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) (<50%) and at least mild sMR.
