To describe the morphological and histopathological features of primary conjunctival basal cell carcinoma (BCC) in a young adult Filipino. Malignant conjunctival tumors arise from different cells, the most common of which are squamous cell carcinomas (SCCs), (including ocular surface squamous neoplasia [OSSN]), melanomas, and lymphomas. Primary conjunctival BCC is rare and can mimic the clinical features of OSSN.

Background: It can be difficult for kidney transplant recipients (KTRs) to be physically active after their transplantation. Physical inactivity is a risk factor for cardiovascular disease, one of the leading cause of death among KTRs. To help KTRs start and maintain a physical activity routine, we developed the KEeP ACTIVe Club, a 6-month online intervention with access to a kinesiologist, a patient partner, and a private support group with an online platform (Facebook).

Studies on baboons and preliminary observations in three patients with sickle cell anemia (SS) suggested that high doses of pulse administered recombinant human erythropoietin (rHuEPO) stimulate F-reticulocyte production. We now report on the administration of rHuEPO in a double-blind format to ascertain frequency of response and potential precipitation of side effects. Ten patients were enrolled, but one was discontinued due to the indication of a blood transfusion.

All pharmacologic agents that induce fetal hemoglobin (Hb) have been discovered with in vivo studies of humans, macaques, and baboons. We tested whether transgenic mice carrying human fetal (gamma) globin genes provide a model for studying the pharmacologic induction of HbF in the adult. In initial studies, phenylhydrazine-induced hemolytic anemia, 5-azacytidine, butyrate, or combinations of these treatments failed to activate the human gamma-globin gene in a transgenic mouse line carrying a 4.
