Understanding catalysts strain dynamic behaviours is crucial for the development of cost-effective, efficient, stable and long-lasting catalysts. Here, we reveal in situ three-dimensional strain evolution of single gold nanocrystals during a catalytic CO oxidation reaction under operando conditions with coherent X-ray diffractive imaging. We report direct observation of anisotropic strain dynamics at the nanoscale, where identically crystallographically-oriented facets are qualitatively differently affected by strain leading to preferential active sites formation.

Transitioning patients from one unit to another is a nursing function that occurs daily. When done effectively, it streamlines continuity of care, decreases anxiety, ensures patients and families maintain confidence in care providers, and avoids readmissions to the intensive care unit (ICU). This article describes a transition plan for transferring patients from the ICU to the general pediatric unit developed by an inpatient, non-critical care cardiology/neuro logical unit to facilitate a smooth and informational transition from the ICU to the non-critical unit.

Farnesyltransferase inhibitors (FTIs) are a class of oral anti-cancer drugs currently tested in phase I-II clinical trials for treatment of hematological malignancies. The effects of various FTIs (alpha-hydroxyfarnesylphosphonic acid, manumycin-A and SCH66336) were tested on CD34 KG1a cell line and in primary acute myeloid leukemia (AML) cells from 64 patients. By cell viability and clonogeneic methylcellulose assays, FTIs showed a significant inhibitory activity in CD34 KG1a and primary bone marrow (BM) leukemic cells from 56% of AML patients.
