Objective: This study aims to examine the type of involvement of patient companions in the argumentative exchanges in consultations and explore when their contributions should be taken into account in shared decision-making (SDM).
Methods: A qualitative analysis was carried out using transcribed medical consultations (N = 10) between health professionals (doctors at a regional Dutch hospital), adult patients and informal patient companions. Insights from argumentation theory were used to develop an inventory of twelve theoretically distinct discussion situations involving patient companions, distinguishing possible discussion roles, disagreement types and coalition formations.
Background: Computed tomography perfusion (CTP)-estimated core volume is associated with functional outcomes in acute ischemic stroke. This relationship might differ among patients, depending on brain volume.
Materials And Methods: We retrospectively included patients from the MR CLEAN Registry.
Background: Intravenous thrombolysis (IVT) before endovascular treatment (EVT) for acute ischemic stroke might induce intracerebral hemorrhages which could negatively affect patient outcomes. Measuring white matter lesions size using deep learning (DL-WML) might help safely guide IVT administration. We aimed to develop, validate, and evaluate a DL-WML volume on CT compared to the Fazekas scale (WML-Faz) as a risk factor and IVT effect modifier in patients receiving EVT directly after IVT.

This study focused on ten German layer farms (including floor-reared and free-range systems) with a recent history of Enteritidis, and samples were collected from July 2018 to March 2021 after the cleaning and disinfection process. A total of 244 swab samples were tested for the presence of using real-time PCR, followed by a culture of positive samples.

As metaphors frame and highlight aspects of understanding and experiences of life events, including illness, they can provide insight in how health professionals and patients construct illness, pain and medicine in interaction.
Materials And Method: 16 intake consultations (collected in Belgium in April-May 2019) between 6 patients and 4 health professionals were qualitatively coded twice ATLAS.
