Assessing the impact of the iPeer2Peer program for adolescents with juvenile idiopathic arthritis: a mixed-methods randomized controlled trial.

Background: Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis (JIA) is a chronic pediatric illness, whereby youth experience physical, emotional and psychosocial challenges that result in reduced health related quality of life (HRQL). Peer mentoring has been shown to improve disease self-management in adults with chronic conditions, with mixed results in younger populations. Building on our pilot work - which supported the feasibility and initial effectiveness of the iPeer2Peer program - the objective of this study was to assess the clinical effectiveness of the program in youth with JIA through a waitlist randomized controlled trial.

Systematic review of genome-wide association studies (GWAS) of epilepsy identifies common risk variants and associated genes.

Objective: The aetiology of epilepsy is known to have genetic contributions, yet results from genome-wide association studies (GWAS) have not always been consistent. We undertook a systematic review in order to identify risk variants for epilepsy.

Methods: This systematic review was conducted in accordance with the PRISMA protocol.

Telomere Length and Biological Aging: The Role of Strength Training in 4814 US Men and Women.

Telomere length is an index of cellular aging. Healthy lifestyles are associated with reduced oxidative stress and longer telomeres, whereas unhealthy behaviors are related to shorter telomeres and greater biological aging. This investigation was designed to determine if strength training accounted for differences in telomere length in a random sample of 4814 US adults.

Evaluation of the sedative properties of oral trazodone, gabapentin or their combination in healthy cats.

Objectives: Sedation before veterinary visits is advocated to help reduce fear and anxiety in cats and facilitate safe handling. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of trazodone, gabapentin and a trazodone/gabapentin combination for oral sedation in healthy feline patients before blood donation.

Methods: A total of 21 cats were included in the study.
