The early period of mammary gland involution is a critical juncture in the lactation cycle that can have significant effects on milk production and mammary gland health. Pegbovigrastim (PEG) administered 1 wk prior and on the day of parturition can enhance immune function and reduce the incidence of mastitis in the early postpartum period. Oxylipids are potent metabolites of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) and are important mediators of inflammation.

Despite its importance, KMO suppression as a treatment for cancer has not been fully explored. Instead, researchers have focused on prevention of KYN pathway activity by inhibition of enzymes indoleamine 2,3-dioxygenase (IDO1 and IDO2) or tryptophan 2,3-dioxygenase (TDO, also known as TDO2).

Mastitis is the costliest infectious disease in North America, with over two billion dollars in annual costs due to loss of milk production, medical treatment, and potential loss of the animal. Infections caused by coliform bacteria are particularly deleterious, causing a negative impact on cow well-being and a high mortality rate.
