Alphabet soup: cystic lesions of bone.

Giant cell tumor (GCT), aneurysmal bone cyst (ABC), and simple bone cyst (SBC) represent relatively common tumors and tumorlike conditions to affect bone. This article describes the clinical presentation of these lesions, as well as the characteristic radiologic and pathologic findings of each. In addition, differential diagnoses, disease course, and various treatment options are discussed.

Purpose: We present the imaging features of longitudinal stress fractures in eight patients and evaluate the literature to determine which tests are most useful for making this diagnosis.

Method: Three musculoskeletal radiologists retrospectively reviewed eight cases of longitudinal tibial stress fractures presenting between 1988 and 1994. Reports on 36 cases, cited in the literature between 1960 and 1996, also were reviewed.

Vascular lesions of bone and soft tissue are relatively common musculoskeletal neoplasms. Hemangioma is the most frequently encountered angiomatous lesion. Osseous hemangioma commonly involves the spine and calvaria and often has a characteristic radiographic appearance, with either coarsened trabeculae lying adjacent to the vascular channels or multifocal lytic areas creating a honeycomb pattern.
