Resistance of transgenic cultivars based on the expression of one or more resistance genes is sooner or later broken by pathogens whose race-producing rates are high. Thus, combining transgenesis with elicitor-induced resistance is a promising approach. The elicitor-induced resistance is based on the expression of multiple resistance genes, which can prevent the adaptation of pathogens to transgenic races, maintain the stability of cultivars, and increase their lifespan.

The embryological processes after acute irradiation in the zone of Chernobyl (radiation level 4-5 Yy) were studied in ovules from the second-year-old cones of scotch pine. Four types of anomalies were detected in ovules of all experimental pine trees: undeveloped ovules in layer of strobiles; a substitution of female gametophit by tissues originaled from tapetal or nucellar cells; death of macrogametophytes connected with the interruption of divisions during the cenocitic stage in full-fertile pine trees. These anomalies appear during the normal development of microgametophytes.

It is known that a prevalence of multiple sclerosis in women is greater than in men (gender ration 2:1). The aim of the study was the analysis of sex differences in the course of disease. On the basis of clinical and paraclinical data, including data concerning mental state of patients emotional disturbances, intellectual functioning the authors determined that the development of multiple sclerosis in men is atypical as compare as women.

Such factors as hereditary, metabolic-endocrine, immunological, emotional, social have great implications in sex distribution of neurological disorders. It is stated that this problem needs further investigation, new methodological approaches which could appear promising in studying pathogenesis of numerous diseases and help in designing effective treatments.

The transformation was carried out using the leaf-disc method with modifications. A special system for obtaining regenerants from explants of potato in vitro plants or calli has been designed that permitted the selection of transgenic shoots.
