Terminological Resources for Biologically Inspired Design and Biomimetics: Evaluation of the Potential for Ontology Reuse.

Biomimetics aims to learn from living systems to develop innovative technical artefacts. As it transcends disciplinary boundaries and needs to integrate both biological and technological knowledge, a domain ontology for biomimetics would be highly desirable. So far, several terminological resources have been designed to support the biomimetic development process.

Toxicity and Quality of Life After Locoregional Radiotherapy in Patients With Thyroid Cancer.

Background: Locoregional external beam radiotherapy (EBRT) is selectively used in thyroid cancer patients to induce locoregional control. However, despite technological advances, EBRT remains associated with toxicities. We evaluated thyroid-cancer specific toxicities and long-term Quality of Life (QoL) post-EBRT.

[Gender differences in scientific publications].

The aim of this study was to investigate the representation of women in the German-speaking scientific publication landscape of otorhinolaryngology.Authorship was analyzed based on articles published between 2013 and 2023 in the two largest otorhinolaryngology journals (Laryngorhinootologie, HNO) to determine the frequency and percentage of gender distribution among first and last authorships.A total of 2,631 articles were examined.

The Impact of Lesion-Specific and Sampling-Related Factors on Success of Salivary Gland Fine-Needle Aspiration Cytology.

Purpose: Ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) is a widely used diagnostic procedure which facilitates the differentiation of salivary gland lesions. Although the performance of salivary gland FNAC (SG-FNAC) has improved since the introduction of the Milan System for Reporting Salivary Gland Cytopathology (MSRSGC), the range of the reported performance is still wide. Therefore, the aim of this study was to determine lesion- and sampling-related factors that influence the success of SG-FNAC.

Indications for the use of dermal substitutes in patients with acute burns and in reconstructive surgery after burns: A systematic review.

Deep dermal and full-thickness burns often result in scar sequelae such as contractures, hypertrophy, pain and itching following split-thickness skin grafting. Dermal substitutes are currently employed alongside split-thickness skin grafting to enhance clinical outcomes, though their indications remain a subject of ongoing debate. This systematic review aims to clarify the indications for the application of dermal substitutes in burn patients, in both acute and reconstructive settings.
