Use of pre-operative imaging for symptomatic uterine myomas during pregnancy: a case report and a systematic literature review.

Purpose: Uterine fibroids (UFs) occur in 10% of pregnancies and may lead to severe maternal-fetal complications, mainly depending on UFs characteristics and the distance to the uterine cavity (UC). When symptomatic, UFs are managed medically. Nevertheless, in about 2% of cases, surgery becomes necessary.

Case report of prenatal diagnosis of Stüve-Wiedemann Syndrome in a woman with another child affected too.

Objective: Stüve-Wiedemann Syndrome (SWS; MIM 601 559) is an autosomal-recessive syndrome characterized by myotonia with mask-like face, skeletal dysplasia and intrauterine growth restriction. Other clinical findings are pursed mouth, hypoplastic midface, congenital contractures and muscular hypotonia. We discuss about the importance of prenatal diagnosis in SWS and the possibility of survival after the first year of life in patients suffering from this disease.

[Indications and controindications of hormone replacement therapy in menopause].

Menopause is a physiological event of women's life that is the end of menstrual cycles and the end of the fertile period. Normally the age at which women reach menopause is between 50 and 52 years, as the world average. Menopause occurs when the functional ovarian reserve is exhausted or can be induced by surgical removal of the ovaries.

Protection of ovarian tissue from radiotherapy.

Advances researches in the diagnosis and treatment of childhood, adolescent and adult cancer have greatly increased the life expectancy of premenopausal women with cancer. However, one of the serious side effects of these treatments is the risk of damage to fertility. The ovaries are very sensitive to cytotoxic and radiotherapeutic treatment.
