Understanding Physicians' Preferences for Telemedicine During the COVID-19 Pandemic: Cross-sectional Study.

Background: In contrast to the current broad dissemination of telemedicine across medical specialties, previous research focused on the effectiveness of telemedicine in special populations and for behavioral health encounters, demonstrating that both physician and patient factors impact the efficacious use of telemedicine.

Objective: We aim to evaluate physician perceptions of the appropriateness of telemedicine for patients attending the primary care practices of a federally qualified health center in New York City.

While the control of pain and anxiety is fundamental to the practice of dentistry, the use of conscious sedation in dentistry is very variable among dentists. The need for conscious sedation could be considered by assessing and ranking a combination of information on patient anxiety, medical history and the complexity of the anticipated clinical treatment. By undertaking this systemtic assessment an indication of sedation need may be developed which would act as an aide to decision making and, potentially, referral management.

Intranasal/intravenous sedation for the dental care of adults with severe disabilities: a multicentre prospective audit.

Objective: This study was designed to provide an evaluation of the combined intranasal/intravenous midazolam sedation technique. It involved adults with severe disabilities which prevented them from being able to co-operate with dental treatment and intravenous cannulation for sedation.

Method: Following a previous retrospective audit, additional treatment centres were enrolled and a standardised form used to collect prospective data about the effectiveness of the technique in facilitating cannulation, dental examination and treatment.

This paper describes a practical skills one day course in the 'management of medical emergencies' which is aimed at fulfilling the requirements for training for dentists and DCPs as defined by the Resuscitation Council UK and prefaced by the GDC.

The significance of alcohol misuse in the dental patient.

Current guidelines for sensible drinking, screening tools for alcohol use and medical problems associated with alcohol misuse are highlighted. The dental management and oral sequaelae of alcohol misuse and dependency are also discussed.
