We show that molecular spins represent ideal materials to realize a fault-tolerant quantum computer, in which all quantum operations include protection against leading (dephasing) errors. This is achieved by pursuing a qudit approach, in which logical error-corrected qubits are encoded in a single multi-level molecule (a qudit) and not in a large collection of two-level systems, as in standard codes. By preventing such an explosion of resources, this emerging way of thinking about quantum error correction makes its actual implementation using molecular spins much closer.

Phases having a finite winding number, for both short- and long-range pairing, are characterized by a power-law diverging finite-size scaling of multipartite entanglement. Moreover, the occurring quantum phase transitions are sharply marked by the divergence of the derivative of the quantum Fisher information, even in the absence of a closing energy gap.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFWe propose and analyze a generalization of the Kitaev chain for fermions with long-range p-wave pairing, which decays with distance as a power law with exponent α. Using the integrability of the model, we demonstrate the existence of two types of gapped regimes, where correlation functions decay exponentially at short range and algebraically at long range (α > 1) or purely algebraically (α < 1). Most interestingly, along the critical lines, long-range pairing is found to break conformal symmetry for sufficiently small α.

Downregulation and decreased sensitivity of γ-aminobutyric acid receptors render benzodiazepines less effective at controlling psychomotor agitation. Propofol has been reported to have successfully relieved alcohol withdrawal syndrome (AWS) symptoms in part because of activation of γ-aminobutyric acid channels in combination with antagonism of excitatory amino acids such as N-methyl-D-aspartate.
