Impact of the Multidisciplinary Cancer Team on the Diagnostic and Therapeutic Care Pathway of Early Breast Cancer Patients and Perception of Team Members: The Experience of a Cancer Centre in Italy.

Literature on the role of multidisciplinary team (MDT) in cancer is still controversial. We aimed to investigate MDT impact on a panel of indicators in breast cancer care in a single-center retrospective study performed in a Cancer Reference Center in Italy. We analysed the diagnostic and therapeutic care pathway (DTCP) of 266 early breast cancer patients managed by our MDT during 2019-2020.

Third whole-brain radiation therapy for multiple brain metastases. Should it be considered in selected patients?

Whole brain reirradiation for the treatment of multiple brain metastases has shown promising results. However, concerns remain over the possible neurotoxic effects of the cumulative dose as well as the questionable radiosensitivity of recurrent metastases. A second reirradiation of the whole brain is ordinarily performed in our department for palliative purposes in patients presenting with multiple metastatic brain progression.

Intra-Operative Electron Radiation Therapy (IOERT) Anticipated Boost in Breast Cancer Treatment: An Italian Multicenter Experience.

In breast cancer, the use of a boost to the tumor bed can improve local control. The aim of this research is to evaluate the safety and efficacy of the boost with intra-operative electron radiotherapy (IOERT) in patients with early-stage breast cancer undergoing conservative surgery and postoperative whole breast irradiation (WBI). The present retrospective multicenter large data were collected between January 2011 and March 2018 in 8 Italian Radiation Oncology Departments.

Metaplastic breast cancer. A case series.

Special type breast cancers display a wide range of different histological types in which clear recommendations on clinical and therapeutic management still lack and most of the information available derive from case report and case studies. In particular metaplastic breast cancer (MBC) is a rare and aggressive type of breast cancer accounting for around 1% of breast malignancies. We reported our experience in the management of five patients with MBC diagnosed and treated in our institution during the last few years (2016-2020).
