No Excess Cancer Risk among Veterinarians in Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden after the 1980s.

The cancer profile of veterinarians has received little research attention, despite the profession potentially being exposed to a wide range of known and suspected carcinogens. In this large-scale cohort study, we assessed cancer incidence in veterinarians in Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden, across more than 40 years (1961-2005). The cohort comprised 4708 veterinarians and 119,503 person-years at follow-up.

Skating sprint performance and the influence of lower-body strength and power in professional and junior elite ice hockey athletes.

Skating sprint performance is essential for competitive success in ice hockey; however, it is unknown which component of a skating sprint is most critical for development throughout the performance pathway. Fifty-seven Swiss male ice hockey athletes were subjects (National League [NL],  = 22; Under 20 [U20],  = 20; Under 17 [U17],  = 15). Athletes performed: on-ice 30 m skating sprint, countermovement jump (CMJ), squat jump (SJ), and isometric mid-thigh pull (IMTP) tests in a single day.

Acoustic Radiation Force Impulse Elastography Assessment of Lymphoedema Tissue: An Insight into Tissue Stiffness.

Palpation remains essential for evaluating lymphoedema to detect subtle changes that may indicate progression. As palpation sense is not quantifiable, this study investigates the utility of ultrasound elastography to quantify stiffness of lymphoedema tissue and explore the influence of the pitting test on tissue stiffness. Fifteen women with unilateral arm lymphoedema were scanned using a Siemens S3000 Acuson ultrasound (Siemens, Germany) with 18 MHz and 9 MHz linear transducers to assess tissue structure and tissue stiffness with Acoustic Radiation Force Impulse elastography.

Motives for competitive sports participation in masters track and field athletes: Impact of sociodemographic factors and competitive background.

Objectives: Masters athletes due to their lifelong engagement in sport represent a unique group to study motivation for regular physical activity, but there is less scientific data on the sport motives in masters athletes. Therefore, the aim of this study was to evaluate the association of age, sex, education, nationality, competitive background and training amount with sport motives of masters track and field athletes.

Methods: 811 (254 women) athletes aged 35-89 years participated in European Veterans Athletics Championships in the year of 2000.

Leisure-time physical activity from adolescence to late middle age and its associations with the COVID-19 pandemic: A 45-year follow-up.

We aimed to investigate the association of self-reported leisure-time physical activity (LTPA) over a 45-years from adolescence to late middle age mediated by LTPA in early middle age. We also explored whether LTPA in adolescence and early middle age was associated with change in LTPA during the COVID-19 pandemic. We constructed a path model employing questionnaire data from three LTPA measurements (1976, 2001, 2021) including duplicated assessment for pre- and during COVID-19 in 2021.
