Undergraduate nursing student perceptions of the unexpected death of a classmate: A qualitative study.

Experiencing the unexpected death of a classmate is distressing and overwhelming for college-aged students, particularly those in a nursing major who spend a tremendous amount of time together within the classroom and high-stress clinical settings. Previous studies have identified ways to help nursing students understand their grief reactions in response to patient-critical illness or death. However, data related to how the sudden death of a classmate impacts traditional nursing students has been minimally studied.

Implementation Lessons Learned: Distress Behaviors in Dementia Intervention in Veterans Health Administration.

Background And Objectives: Evidence-based practices to manage distress behaviors in dementia (DBD) are not consistently implemented despite demonstrated effectiveness. The Veterans Health Administration (VA) trained teams to implement Staff Training in Assisted Living Residences (STAR)-VA, an intervention to manage DBD in VA nursing home settings, or Community Living Centers (CLCs). This paper summarizes multiyear formative evaluation results including challenges, adaptations, and lessons learned to support sustained integration into usual care across CLCs nationwide.

Purpose: To assess for associations between nursing hours per patient day (NHPPD) and outcome measures in the Veterans Health Administration Community Living Centers.

Congregational health needs by key demographic variables: Findings from a congregational health needs assessment tool.

Health needs assessments identify important issues to be addressed and assist organizations in prioritizing resources. Using data from the Mid-South Congregational Health Survey, top health needs (physical, mental, social determinants of health) were identified, and differences in needs by key demographic variables (age, sex, race/ethnicity, education) were examined. Church leaders and members (N = 828) from 92 churches reported anxiety/depression (65 %), hypertension/stroke (65 %), stress (62 %), affordable healthcare (60 %), and overweight/obesity (58 %) as the top health needs in their congregations.
