The presence of JAK2 exon 12 mutation was included by the 2016 World Health Organization (WHO) Classification as one of the major criteria for diagnosing polycythemia vera (PV). Few studies have evaluated the clinical presentation and bone marrow morphology of these patients and it is unclear if these patients fulfill the newly published criteria of 5th edition WHO or The International Consensus Classification (ICC) criteria for PV. The microbiota-gut-brain axis is an important pathway for GABAergic effects, as microbially-secreted GABA within the gut can affect host mental health outcomes. Understanding the molecular characteristics of GABA production by microbes within the gut can offer insight to novel therapies for mental health.
