Background: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a leading cause of cancer-related deaths, with high rates of postoperative recurrence. Identifying reliable biomarkers for predicting recurrence is critical for improving patient outcomes. This study investigates the predictive value of m6A methylation-related genes, METTL4 and METTL5, on HCC recurrence after surgery.

This study evaluated the role of probiotics in enhancing intestinal immunity and mitigating polystyrene nanoplastics (PS-NPs)-induced toxicity in grass carp (Ctenopharyngodon idella). Grass carp were fed probiotics (Bacillus subtilis, Bacillus velezensis, Lactobacillus reuteri, and Lactococcus lactis) for two weeks before being exposed to PS-NPs for five days. Probiotic pretreatment alleviated PS-NPs-induced intestinal damage, with Bacillus velezensis and Lactococcus lactis groups showing milder vacuolation and villus breakage than other groups.

The ferrate(VI) ion is a green, versatile oxidant employed eliminate organic contaminants. Research on the degradation of saturated chlorinated hydrocarbons such as 1,2,3-trichloropropane (1,2,3-TCP), by Fe(VI) is limited. In this study, we investigated the degradation of 1,2,3-TCP by Fe(VI).

Objective: Elevated plasma Cystatin C levels are associated with an increased mortality risk among middle-aged and elderly Chinese individuals. This study explores whether tracking the longitudinal changes in Cystatin C can improve the prediction of mortality risk and allow better risk stratification, jointly with baseline measurements.

Design & Methods: This analysis includes 3,195 participants from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study who completed plasma Cystatin C measurements in two waves (2011 and 2015) and were followed through 2020.

The electrochemical synthesis of hydrogen peroxide from oxygen and water, powered by renewable electricity, provides a highly attractive alternative to the energy-intensive autoxidation process presently used in industry, but much remains unknown about this two-electron oxygen reduction reaction (2e-ORR), especially the local proton effect. Here, we have investigated the function of hydrogen-associated intermediates in the 2e-ORR using a rationally designed cooperative electrode material with cobalt (II) clusters embedded onto the oxidized carbon nanotube composites (Co-OCNT). We found that the local proton availability can determine both the reaction kinetics and selectivity.
