Background: The lower airway concentration of fractional exhaled nitric oxide (F) is unknown in children with chronic lung disease of infancy who have tracheostomy for long-term mechanical ventilation. We aimed to evaluate an online method of measuring F in a cohort of ventilator-dependent children with a tracheostomy and to explore the relationship between the peak F concentration (F peak) and the degree of respiratory support using the respiratory severity score.

Methods: We conducted a prospective cross-sectional study in 31 subjects who were receiving long-term respiratory support through a tracheostomy.

Background: Tracheobronchomalacia prevalence in premature infants on prolonged mechanical ventilation is high.

Objective: To examine the prevalence of tracheobronchomalacia diagnosed by tracheobronchography in ventilator-dependent infants, and describe the demographic, clinical and dynamic airway characteristics of those infants with tracheobronchomalacia.

Materials And Methods: This retrospective review studies 198 tracheobronchograms performed from 1998 to 2011 in a cohort of 158 ventilator-dependent infants <2 years of age.

Objective: To assess pulmonary outcomes of infants <29 weeks gestational age (GA), delivered at level I, II and III facilities, to identify potentially modifiable factors affecting bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) severity and to assess the external generalizability of the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) BPD Outcome Estimator.

Study Design: Outcomes for infants <29 weeks GA born during (2008-2010) and delivered either at an inborn level III center or in a level II or III metropolitan area hospital with transfer to a level IV center, or delivered in a distant level I or II center and then transported to a level IV center were assessed. BPD severity was compared with the NICHD Neonatal BPD Outcome Estimator.

Objectives: To report survey results of members of the American Society of Pediatric Otolaryngology (ASPO) on the practice patterns of surveillance endoscopy and management of suprastomal granuloma (SSG) in children younger than 2 years with indwelling tracheostomy tubes and to review our internal practice patterns.

Patients: All patients younger than 2 years who underwent tracheotomy between 1996 and 2006 at a tertiary children's hospital.

Interventions: (1) Retrospective medical chart summary and (2) ASPO-approved and -administered online surveys to the membership of a 14-question survey on indications for infant tracheotomy, indications for bronchoscopy after tracheotomy, and treatment preferences for SSG in this population.
