Screening for the Key Proteins Associated with Rete Testis Invasion in Clinical Stage I Seminoma via Label-Free Quantitative Mass Spectrometry.

Rete testis invasion (RTI) is an unfavourable prognostic factor for the risk of relapse in clinical stage I (CS I) seminoma patients. Notably, no evidence of difference in the proteome of RTI-positive vs. -negative CS I seminomas has been reported yet.

Evaluation of the surface properties of hair with acoustic emission analysis.

Objective: The tactile sensation of hair is an important consumer-perceivable attribute. There are limited instrumental options to measure the haptic properties of hair. In this study, we introduce a novel technique using the acoustic emissions produced when skin comes in contact with dry hair in a stroking motion.

Hair surface quality: Laser scattering as a tool for characterizing the surface condition and deposits from shampoos and conditioners.

Objectives: The hair surface condition underlies many visually perceived attributes such as shine, colour and the 3D perception of a curly hair style. Many factors can alter the hair surface such as cumulated cleansing/styling regimens or chemical treatments which can lead to degradation of the cuticle edges and surface. Similarly, pollutants, sebum, and shampoo/conditioners can build up on the hair surface which are also perceivable to an observer.

Down-regulation of traditional oncomiRs in plasma of breast cancer patients.

Deregulated expression of microRNAs has the oncogenic or tumor suppressor function in cancer. Since miRNAs in plasma are highly stable, their quantification could contribute to more precise cancer diagnosis, prognosis and therapy prediction. We have quantified expression of seven oncomiRs, namely miR-17/92 cluster (miR-17, miR-18a, miR-19a and miR-20a), miR-21, miR-27a and miR-155, in plasma of 137 breast cancer (BC) patients.
